Renovation Project

LYSB’s main office building will be undergoing a major renovation this year thanks to the support of a Connecticut Nonprofit Program Grant which will provide 75% of the funding.  The remaining 25% of the project budget will come from community donations.

LYSB has contracted with Steve Wood Design Build LLC as our General Contractor for the project.  LYSB’s office staff will be relocated to a temporary office trailer in our yard, and other buildings on our campus.  There will be no disruption to LYSB’s programs and services this year.

Built in 1850, the building has crumbling plaster ceilings and walls with newspaper insulation, aging wiring and plumbing, no ventilation, a dirt floor in a portion of the basement, inefficient and inoperative windows, and a stone foundation in need of repair.  This project proposes to gut the interior of the 1836 sq. ft building with has four small offices including our counseling suite, a meeting room, two bathrooms, a small kitchenette, and a waiting area.  The building is lovely and structurally sound, but just about everything is old and failing, and our staff deals with building and repair issues on a regular basis.

The renovation will modernize the building, bring all mechanical systems up to code, maximize energy efficiency, improve safety and ADA accessibility in bathrooms and hallways, and allow our staff to focus on clients rather than dealing with frequent building issues. When finished, the new building will allow for flexibility in space use and create additional privacy options for client meetings. This project will ensure our agency is able to serve our clients and community for generations to come.
