ENGINEERING CAMP

Aspiring Engineers! Discover the marvelous and spectacular world of engineering through the hands-on, minds on summer camps offered by Engineering Imagination, LLC! In these exciting, educational summer camps, participants will use a variety of mediums such as LEGO, recycled materials, salvaged motors and gears, balsa wood, and more to explore the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) curriculum. Using the different mediums, participants will learn about and build projects such as hydroelectric waterwheels, model rockets, and scale bridges! With activities focused on green engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and architecture, your child is sure to have a blast while learning along the way! Fee: $325. Scholarships available for L/OL residents.

Whether you are a math lover or a person that feels more hesitant with math, we assure you, we will have tons of fun and you will feel more confident with your math skills! SITTER SAFETY CLASS
July 15 to 18, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
An intense sitter safety and training course appropriate for babysitters, big brothers and sisters, and children staying home alone for the first time. This course touches on a variety of safety skills such as basic first aid, fire safety, and 911 skills. Fee is $50 and includes supplies, snacks, and guest speakers.

CPR FOR BABYSITTERS

Add this valuable class to your LYSB babysitter’s course and learn how to save a life! Learn CPR and how to clear a blocked airway in children and infants. Parents want to hire babysitters who know CPR and can help kids who are choking. Instructors will teach you everything you need to know to provide lifesaving care during a cardiac or choking emergency in this class. Class cost is $55 and awards a Certificate of Completion. Scholarships available.

SHORELINE TRACK & FIELD CLUB
RUN • JUMP • THROW
Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 25 to August 8, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
Grades 4 to 8, Fee: $50
At the Shoreline Track & Field Club, children going into 4th to 8th grade can feel what it is like to be on a track team, coached by seasoned high school and college student leader athletes. On the first day of camp, kids will try a variety of events and eventually join a group. These groups include a distance group for kids that want to run long distance track events (any event 800m or longer). A sprinter group for running shorter distance events. A jumping group for kids interested in long jump and high jump. Lastly, a thrower group for kids interested in throwing shot put or discus. The first few days of the club will be focused on team bonding exercises – with the club at large, as well as within each group. As the season progresses, we will begin to focus on setting new personal records (commonly referred to as PRs) by introducing common track workouts specific for each group. No prior track experience is need for the program, beginners welcome. Scholarships available. Drop off and pick up at LYSB.

A Painterly Approach to Self-portraiture and Mural Making
August 5 to 9, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Lyme Art Association
For Middle and High School students, Fee: $25
Learn essential artistic skills in designing a figurative painting in the form of a (soft) mural, or banner, working together in a collaborative setting. Students will develop skills in portraiture, figure drawing and painting. Elements of design, composition and narration will be introduced. Students will learn how to mix colors, address color theory, and apply paint using a variety of techniques. Lastly students will learn the art of self-expression and developing an emotional outlet through the practice of art making. Taught by Nancy Gladwell, faculty member at University of New Haven, and previously at Lyme Academy College.

For adventurous Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School boys to learn leadership, respect, listening and teamwork. We will participate in activities such as ROPES, paddle boarding, Open Space Hike, and more adventures on Land and Sea. We will meet at a different location each day. This program is outside therefore events could be cancelled due to inclement weather. Space is limited. Fee: $125. Scholarships available. Due to the demand for this program we are limiting registrations to one session per person only.

CHILL OUT at LYSB
June 24 to August 1, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. (Monday through Thursday, after Park & Rec camp)
Chill out at LYSB after park and rec! Children will be escorted from park and rec day camp to the LYSB where they can hang out with their friends, play basketball, watch movies, games, art and crafts and much more. Snacks will be provided. Fee: $300 per child for the six week session. (you must register for all six weeks). . Note: this program runs Monday through Thursday and is NOT held on Fridays. No program on July 4th. Space is very limited. REGISTRATION FOR CHILL OUT WILL BE DONE ONLINE THROUGH OUR WEBSITE. NO PHONE REGISTRATIONS.

DYEING WITH NATURAL MATERIALS
July 22,23,24, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
For students entering grades 6-8, fee $25
In this class, middle school students will explore natural dyeing techniques. Students will create projects using fresh and dried plants, household food waste such as avocado pits and onion skins, and indigo. Students will explore how silk and cotton fibers respond differently to dyes and how pH affects dyes. We will dye silk and cotton bandanas, embroidery floss or ribbon. Students will learn how to care for the fabrics to best maintain their color. Wear clothing and shoes appropriate for dyeing! Location: Lyme Art Association

FILMMAKING WORKSHOP with GREEN PLANET FILMS
Three Fridays: July 26, August 2, and 9, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
For Middle and High School students, Fee: $25
Green Planet Films is proud to offer a hands on youth filmmaking workshop for LOL youth in middle and high school. Led by filmmaker Chris Kepple, who has published his documentary work on Connecticut and Colorado Public Television, these workshops will guide first time filmmakers in making their own short documentary films. Students will explore the theory, ethics and best practices of documentary filmmaking while learning core skills of videography. Each student will be assigned their own iPad to shoot, keep notes, conduct research, and edit their 2-3 minute film. The students will workshop their own films as well as the work of other notable documentarians. The subject of the films can be determined by the program or can be student selected. This program will conclude with a screening event to celebrate the new short films and filmmakers. For LOL residents only. This program will be held at Old Lyme Town Hall in the Meeting Hall.

The mission of Tennis Pals is to introduce the physical, mental, and social benefits of tennis to youth and young adults with special needs including physical, cognitive, and/or developmental challenges. Tennis PALS provides a fun, supportive, and adaptive environment. We will do our best to make the game adaptable for people with any challenge. We meet at the Lyme-Old Lyme High School tennis courts with local tennis pros and student volunteers. TShirts and all equipment will be provided. CERAMIC MOSAIC WORKSHOP with Lilywork Studio

In this workshop, participants will learn to transform their 2-D design into a multi-colored clay mosaic plaque. It will consist of 3 weeks- 1 week of clay work, 1 week of glaze work and 1 week of setting and grouting the final piece. Transferring a unique design on clay and creating into a multi-colored mosaic. Participants will learn a variety of clay and glaze techniques, as well as, setting and grouting. For Lyme/Old Lyme residents only.

INTRODUCTION TO PUNCH NEEDLE

This beginner punch needle workshop introduces participants to textile and fiber as a medium for creative exploration! Using a standard sized punch needle, an embroidery hoop, monk’s cloth, and yarn, students will create small punch needle pieces of a design of their choosing, and explore different methods for finishing the piece for hanging. Bring a snack or lunch. Led by artist Michelle Beaulieu-Morgan.

YOUTH THEATER CAMP

NEW!! Youth Theater Camp offers youth an opportunity to experience the performing arts through acting, singing, movement classes and theater improv games. Students will hone their skills in performing, make new friends and try new things. The day camp will feature various classes including musical theater, dance as well as some time for arts and crafts! The week-long camp will culminate with a camp sampler performance for family and friends. Your child will surely LOVE being part of this creative experience. CREATING A CHARACTER: HS Drama Workshop

For grades 9-12, free
In this 2-hour workshop, students will learn about the basics of acting and creating a character. They’ll learn how to warm up for performing, how to create a character, and how to write and perform their own work. Topics covered include: the way a character stands and moves, emotion, imagination, storytelling, collaboration, and more. This workshop is great for experienced and beginner teen actors!

Join us for LYSB Family Night at the Yard Goats at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford. The Hartford Yard Goats are taking on the Red Sox affiliate Portland Sea Dogs. Our group tickets are located in the Picnic Pavilion on the concourse level and include a 2.5 hour all you can eat buffet including hamburgers, hot dogs, bbq chicken, mac and cheese, pasta salad and more! Game starts at 7:00. Tickets are $45 per person and fans get a free Yard Goats camo hat (while supplies last), Limited tickets available. This event sold out last year, so book now.
