SEWING WORKSHOPS!
Four week sessions on Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 p.m. With arts educator Claudia Mathison
Here’s your chance to sew on a machine! Learn the basic machine and hand sewing skills that will help you create simple sewn accessories and projects.  Machines and supplies are provided.  Students can take the bus from Mile Creek or Lyme Schools directly to LYSB.   

  • Spring into Sewing: April 9, 23, 30, May 7, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
    Let’s get sewing with a spring theme! You’ll learn basic machine and hand sewing while stitching a colorful, patchwork spring scarf, felt bunny and zippered bag. Beginning and experienced seamstress welcomed. For boys and girls ages 8 and up. Take the bus to LYSB. Fee: $100. REGISTER
  • Sew A Skirt: May 14, 21, 28, June 4, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. 
    Design and sew a simple A line skirt with matching accessories. You’ll learn hemming and basic pattern making techniques as well as a review of machine and hand stitching. For students with some prior sewing experience, Ages 8 and up. Fee: $100.

MOTHER/DAUGHTER WORKSHOP: Let’s Start Talking 
Tuesday, April 2, 2019, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Open the lines of communication with your daughter! Designed to give girls a better understanding of the changes that her body will go through during puberty. Topics will include the importance of a positive body image and how to deal with difficult situations. A fun and educational night out for girls in 4th or 5th grade and their mothers. Cost is $50 per pair and includes resource materials, goodie bags and a pizza dinner. Patty Cournoyer, LOLMS health teacher facilitate this course. REGISTER

APRIL VACATION WEEK:

  • SEW A FOXY FOX
    Monday, April 15th, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
    Ages 8 and up.  Fee: $30
    Sew a cute and cuddly fox while learning basic hand sewing skills. Soft felt, buttons, ribbon and lace will be used to embellish stuffed animal creation.

  • CHESS FEST!
    Tuesday, April 16, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
    Ages 9 and up, Fee: $20
    Learn a basic understanding of fundamental chess strategy.  The event includes lessons, practice against others, and personalized feedback from the instructor. Perfect for anyone who is interested in learning chess in a friendly environment!  Note: LYSB will have a Chess Summer Camp in July.  Join us for a preview!

    Ages 6-11, Join us as we welcome back the animals and plants that have been hiding all winter! Both outdoors and indoors, a variety of fun, nature-based offerings are planned for each day. Captivating explorations, investigations, games, and creative activities are in store!

    Ages 6 and older, Fee: $30
    Calling all American Girl fans! Join your friends for a fun morning of AG themed crafts and simple sewing. You’ll also learn about the lives of your favorite American Girl through games and stories.  We’ll have a traditional tea party with china cups and tea cakes too!  Bring your favorite doll.

ENGINEERING AFTER SCHOOL with ENGINEERING IMAGINATIONS LLC
ASPIRING YOUNG ENGINEERS!
Discover the spectacular world of engineering through hands-on, minds-on activities! Students apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to explore our S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics) based curriculum. Participants will use a variety of mediums such as recycled materials, salvaged motors and gears, balsa wood, LEGO®, and more.  With activities ranging from bridges, to rockets, to green engineering, participants are sure to have a blast while learning fundamental engineering terms and concepts along the way!  Students can take the bus from Mile Creek and Lyme Schools directly to LYSB.  Fee $125/ six week session.

RUN LIKE  A GIRL
Fall 2019 tba

A group running program for girls age 8 and up, training for a 5K finale!  Meet at different locations each week for a group run followed by half hour meeting. We will run on local trails, the high school track, and other locations in L/OL.  Our meetings will cover topics such as embracing differences; stretching; nutrition; dealing with injuries; “your look”; team spirit; stress relief; goals and plans. Fee: $55/girl.  Limited space available. Ages 8 and up.  

1-2-3 MAGIC: Effective Discipline for Children 2-12

LYSB offers 1-2-3 Magic to help parents find solutions to the challenges of disciplining children ages 2-12. This program is based on the best-selling book by Thomas W. Phelan. Ph.D.  The group will be led by Arleen Sharp, LYSB Parent Educator.

CHANGE HAPPENS:  a program for children of divorce
Six week sessions meets on Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm
Change Happens is LYSB’s program for children and adolescents whose families are going through divorce, separation, remarriage, and custody issues. This program was designed to assist children through the continuum of family reorganization, change or upset.   We will address self-esteem, issues of loss, communication and transition.  Hands on activities will help young people express themselves.  All young people who are managing the emotions and hurdles of family transitions will benefit from this program which will be held at LYSB and led by a licensed clinical social worker.  Fee: $90 for six week sessions.  Pre-register by calling LYSB at 860-434-7208 x0.  All calls are confidential.
