Come to the LYSB Etherington Activity Center to hang out with your friends and participate in a variety of fun activities.  We’ll do arts and crafts projects as well as play basketball, ping pong, Wii, and much more!  Snacks and refreshments are provided.  Students from Mile Creek and Lyme Schools will take the bus directly to LYSB.  

Saturdays, September 15 – December 2, 2018.  9:30-11:00 a.m.
A group running program for girls age 8 and up, training for a 5K finale!  Meet at different locations each week for a group run followed by half hour meeting. We will run on local trails, the high school track, and other locations in L/OL.  Our meetings will cover topics such as embracing differences; stretching; nutrition; dealing with injuries; “your look”; team spirit; stress relief; goals and plans. Fee: $55/girl.  Limited space available. Ages 8 and up.  REGISTER

Discover the spectacular world of engineering through hands-on, minds-on activities! Students apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to explore our S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics) based curriculum. Participants will use a variety of mediums such as recycled materials, salvaged motors and gears, balsa wood, LEGO®, and more.  With activities ranging from bridges, to rockets, to green engineering, participants are sure to have a blast while learning fundamental engineering terms and concepts along the way!  Students can take the bus from Mile Creek and Lyme Schools directly to LYSB.  Fee $120/ six week session.

Here’s your chance to sew on a machine! Learn the basic machine and hand sewing skills that will help you create simple sewn accessories and projects.  Machines and supplies are provided.  Students can take the bus from Mile Creek or Lyme Schools directly to LYSB.   

  • Fantastic Fall Sewing: October 2, 9, 16 & 23. 4:00-6:00 p.m.
    Let’s get sewing! With fall as our theme we’ll sew and embroider pillows, tote bags, and stuffed animals. You’ll learn machine and had sewing embroidery and appliqué. Suitable for Beginning and experienced sewers. Ages 8 and up. Fee: $100.  
  • Sewing Explorations: November 6, 13, 27, December 4.  4:00-6:00 p.m. 
    Here’s your chance to learn machine and hand sewing techniques while making a zippered purse, fringed scarf and soft and cuddly pillows. Beginners and experienced sewers welcome. Ages 8 and up. Fee $100. 

Thursday, October 25, 2018, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Open the lines of communication with your daughter! Designed to give girls a better understanding of the changes that her body will go through during puberty. Topics will include the importance of a positive body image and how to deal with difficult situations. A fun and educational night out for girls in 4th or 5th grade and their mothers. Cost is $50 per pair and includes resource materials, goodie bags and a pizza dinner. Patty Cournoyer, LOLMS health teacher facilitate this course.


  • Festive Felt Stocking, Tuesday, December 11, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
    Let’s get into the holiday spirit! Design and appliqué a festive holiday stocking using colorful fabric, buttons sequins and embroidery floss. Ages 7 and up  Fee: $25. Take the bus to LYSB.   
  • Felt Holiday Ornaments, Tuesday, December 18th, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
    Felt tree ornaments to brighten your holiday! Snow people, candy canes and more! Colorful felt, sparkling sequined and buttons will be used to complete your creations. Great for gift giving!  Ages 7 and up. Fee: $25.  Take the bus to LYSB. 

CHANGE HAPPENS:  a program for children of divorce
Six week sessions meets on Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm
Change Happens is LYSB’s program for children and adolescents whose families are going through divorce, separation, remarriage, and custody issues. This program was designed to assist children through the continuum of family reorganization, change or upset.   We will address self-esteem, issues of loss, communication and transition.  Hands on activities will help young people express themselves.  All young people who are managing the emotions and hurdles of family transitions will benefit from this program which will be held at LYSB and led by a licensed clinical social worker.  Fee: $90 for six week sessions.  Pre-register by calling LYSB at 860-434-7208 x0.  All calls are confidential.
