Discover the world of engineering through hands-on, minds-on activities! In these exciting, educational programs, students will need to use and apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to explore our S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics) based curriculum. Participants will use a variety of mediums such as recycled materials, salvaged motors and gears, balsa wood, LEGO®, and more. With activities ranging from bridges, to rockets, to green engineering, participants are sure to have a blast while learning fundamental engineering terms and concepts along the way! This program is open to students from all area towns. Students can take the bus from Mile Creek and Lyme Schools directly to LYSB. Fee: $125/session.

Here’s your chance to sew on a machine! Learn the basic machine and hand sewing skills that will help you create simple sewn accessories and projects.  Machines and supplies are provided.  Students can take the bus from Mile Creek or Lyme Schools directly to LYSB.   

  • Spring Sewing Sensations: April 10, 24, May 1, & 8, 2018 (note no class on 4/17)
    Design and stitch cuddly bunnies, colorful headbands and an embroidered tote bag in this all about spring sewing session.  Ribbons, lace, buttons and trims will add sparkle to your creations.  Machines are provided although students are welcome to bring their own. Ages 8 and up.  Fee $100. REGISTER.
  • Summer Tops & Accessories: May 22, 29, June 5, 12 2018 (FOR ADVANCED STUDENTS)
    For ages 10 and older.  Design and sew simple short sleeve top and matching accessories to keep you cool and stylish all summer.  Basic pattern making, fabric selection and sewing techniques will be taught.   This class is appropriate for students who are comfortable sewing independently and have basic sewing experience. Ages 10 and up.  Fee $125.  REGISTER

  • Sew A Bunny: Wednesday, April 18, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
    Just in time for spring cuddling!  You’ll hand sew a cute felt bunny while learning basic sewing and embroidery techniques.  Ages 7 and up.  Fee $40.  REGISTER
  • Build It!: Thursday, April 19, 1:00-4:00 p.m.
    You’ll be an engineer and architect as you design and build unique structures from a variety of materials.  Wood, cardboard, foam and more will be transformed into castles, towers or abstract sculptures.  Bring your imagination and be ready for a fun afternoon!  Ages 7 and up.  Fee: $40.  REGISTER

Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Open the lines of communication with your daughter! Designed to give girls a better understanding of the changes that her body will go through during puberty. Topics will include the importance of a positive body image and how to deal with difficult situations. A fun and educational night out for girls in 4th or 5th grade and their mothers. Cost is $50 per pair and includes resource materials, goodie bags and a pizza dinner. Patty Cournoyer, LOLMS health teacher facilitate this course.  REGISTER

CHANGE HAPPENS:  a program for children of divorce

Six week sessions meets on Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm
Change Happens is LYSB’s program for children and adolescents whose families are going through divorce, separation, remarriage, and custody issues. This program was designed to assist children through the continuum of family reorganization, change or upset.   We will address self-esteem, issues of loss, communication and transition.  Hands on activities will help young people express themselves.  All young people who are managing the emotions and hurdles of family transitions will benefit from this program which will be held at LYSB and led by a licensed clinical social worker.  Fee: $90 for six week sessions.  Pre-register by calling LYSB at 860-434-7208 x0.  All calls are confidential.
